Hi,

I've been searching now for weeks for a solution, but nothing has worked, I have an Intel Celeron processor, and I'm attempting to install an Intel Pentium 4, but upon install my pc doesn't post, and I get a "Bad bios checksum error, starting recovery" and it will continously check for a cd or floppy.

I tried downloading the latest bios and putting it on disc, it works, says starting programming, start erasing ... reboot to recover your system, then goes back to the bad bios checksum on reboot.

I tried replacing my bios chip, cmos battery, cleared the jumpers numerous times, but nothing works, same error .. if I put my intel celeron back in, works fine..

My motherboard is Asus P5S800-VM, and I am trying to install the Intel Pentium 4 630. Manual says P4 are supported, so I'm out of ideas.

If anyone can help out I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks,
Daniel

I would clear the CMOS, then try flashing the BIOS again, with a fresh download on a different disk. Make sure the BIOS version you are putting on is the latest, the 2006/05/03 update.

Already tried that, if I put the bios jumper in recovery mode, and then try to flash, on boot I get the EZ Flash utility, flashed it and put the jumper back, and then it on reboot still a bios checksum error.

I've tried every possible combination, just not happening :4-dontkno

If the board is still under warranty, I would contact Asus about a replacement, as it sounds like the board has issues.

hi
i get that check sum error all the time on my old soyo dragon ultra board
ment for over clocking. about 5 yrs old

It has options to change the ram clocking speed, in the bios. It has some kind of default value of s. p d . I do not know what that means, i never looked into it, but i change it to 133 mhz, or 166mhz
the board fires right up. works fine when i do that.

Its 400w, cant remember the model but its got Pentium 4 and AMD stickers on it, so I guess it can handle P4's.

btw, when I replaced my bios chip, a repair guy that I called out told me he left the Pentium in my system, at the time whatever he did made the Celeron get a bad bios checksum too, but then when I installed the new bios chip it worked and said CPU installed, but it was the Celeron, I switched the processors and was back to the bad bios checksum.

So you think If I buy another bios chip and install it with the P4 it would work?

Long shot but getting desperate here :p

hi there, i got recommended to come here to sort out my issues! so here i am...

basically, i had a pc with a Intel Pentium® 4, 3.0 GHz with Hyper Threading cpu, i was changing fan and adding ram, and i put the cpu back wrong and broke it, so i put a backup i had laying around just to get the computer running until i get an exact same processor.

so now i have the same processor my computer was born with, but it's not working?

the computer powers up, an spins, no beeping sound, no image on screen?

i have got this fan: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45436&doy=20m1

i tried the jumpers theory, and that didn't work, i update bios through msi, and that didn't work... i took out ram and pout it back in, and that didn't work either!

my computer is: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/pc/t9001.htm

the only thing different to that page is i have 1gb extra ram, besides that, nothing changed and i don't see why the system is not allowing the cpu to work! i need urgent help as this computer belongs to a friend and i am doing him a favor upgrading it, which i am not doing so well =(

thanks in advance, freddy!
