im sorry if this is in the wrong thread

recently i have been trying to connect to my usual irc server but every time i connect to it for some reason my internet connection drops then reconnects . it does this over and over again till i close my Mirc client completely

this it an example

open Mirc chat console
connecting to server
joining all channels in auto join
i get a port scan warning box (but ive always had this)
now i get a box in from my bottom left tool bar saying "network cable unplugged"
then it will reconnect again then will go bk to unplugged
so i close irc completely down and it stops with the annoying games its been playing

Things ive tried

firewall off
using java irc (still does the same)
using other clients
getting the newest version
changing servers i connect to

If any1 has some idea what this is all about the it would b much appreciated as im ready to throw the computer out the window

The easiest way I can think of to address this issue is to run a sniffer like WireShark on your connection and then see what the traffic is doing when you get dropped. You may be receiving some kind of accidental syn flood and your ISP doesn't like it so you get discon'd.

Is your computer connected through a router, or directly through to the modem? If you're using a router then it probably isn't the ISP (your "internal home network" would still be up and it should not give off a "Network cable unplugged" warning, which is indicative of a problem more physical in nature) but the router.
