well, the cpu itself powers up and all the lights come on. but the keyboard, mouse and monitor dont power up, as if they are not even plugged in.

it normally crashes when im playing music, the music stops and theres just an anoying buzzing sound. i sometimes get the buzzing for a sec and then the music carries on but sometimes it stalls.

if i leave the computer unplugged for 15 mins then turn it back on they power up. but windows crashes at the loading screen. so i chose to boot up in safe mode and the computer crashes again when opening a file called mup.sys.
i tried to use the recovery console on the winxp disc but couldnt remember the admin password. :4-dontkno .

eventually i just went into the bios and chose "load optimized settings". this allows windows to boot up, but within an hour or so it will crash again.

my setup is:
os: winxp sp2
grsaphics: ati sapphire radeon 9550 256mb (this was purchesed recently and may be the problem?)
soundcard: audiophile 2496
ram: 756mb
hard disks: seagate 120gb, seagate 40mb
motherboard: km2m combo
processor: amd athlon xp 1800hz

cheers for taking the time to read this, any help would be greatly appreciated, cheers, rob.

You could try what is called an ATX reset, use it ALOT at work helping customers.
1. unplug all periferals and mains power so there are no leads connected to PC
2. push and hold power button in for 30 seconds
3. plug in minimal periferals e.g. power, monitor, mouse and KB
4. test :)

always worth a try with anything that could be PSU related
