I have recently downgraded from Vista to XP on my Dell inspiron laptop. It installed fine but now i have having trouble activating. I got XP from my friend's work (he is in tech support so has large quantaties of XP disks) but the CD key on the box did not work.
I then tried phone activation and gave the customer service person the installation ID (the one thats different than CD key). They said it did not work and to contact my manufacterer, the only problem is this computer came with Vista and I don't think I get Dell support for installing XP. I only have 13 days left does anyone have any ideas?

If microsoft will not activate it means you do not have a legal copy. You will need to purchase a legal copy in order to get activated.

Is that the only solution? Im fairly sure this is a legal copy, I was just wondering if anything like this has happened to anyone else

This is NOT a legal copy, since you got it from a friend! How can you imagine this is a legal copy?
