I recently acquired a asus cdrom modle cd s340. it has 34x capbillity but i cannot get the thing to do better than 10x. I have not been able to find any type of manual online. can anybody tell me how to get the rom to read at 34x? I am using 98SE My motherbourd is ECS K7S5A ,with800 Duron ,384 megs of PC 133
Gforce 4 mx 420 video,secondarymaster is yamaha 44116e, and asus rom is secondary slave.

What are you using to test this....it is my undestanding that a CD will read at what it is supposed to....thats why some older programs said they required a 12X cd rom or better...but if the program read at 10x then you dont have a problem ?? or are you having problems with it reading the CD because it is too slow?? In which case...bring it back...the cost of a 32X cd rom isnt worth the cost of troubleshooting...specially if its new...also poke around in system under control panel...if I rember there was a cd setting that you can change the speed ...alittle

As this seems to be more of a hardware issue we'll put it here.....:D

Did you check to see if you have DMA enabled.
