Help accessing C:\Userdata

1087 Views 1 Reply 2 Participants Last post by  Paladin-X
After I put my comp through a system restore, it moved all my old files into the userdata folder and when i try to access it, it says "Access is denied".

is there any way possible to get to those files and move them to my current folders so they're usable again? :dead:

Are you running XP Home or Pro?

If Home, you will need to reboot into safe mode. Restart your computer and tap on the F8 key about every second or so until you get to the windows advanced options menu. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode in the list (choose regular safe mode, not networking or command prompt).

If Pro, go into my computer > tools > folder options > uncheck use simple file sharing and click ok.

Then follow this article on how to take ownership of a file or folder:

NOTE: You will need administrative privileges to do this.
