Are you running XP Home or Pro?
If Home, you will need to reboot into safe mode. Restart your computer and tap on the F8 key about every second or so until you get to the windows advanced options menu. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode in the list (choose regular safe mode, not networking or command prompt).
If Pro, go into my computer > tools > folder options > uncheck use simple file sharing and click ok.
