I have 448mb ram and a 2.2 ghz cpu. its terriblely slow, and its a laptop. I can barely play dvds for more the 20 minutes. the computer is practically empty and defragged. I heard that if you put the min/max of the computer's virtual memory the same, it will be faster. I just put 1,000, but the computer recommendes 700. Whats the max VM I should put to get the best performancE?


Is there anything else i can do to speed this computer up?

(Initial & Max)

64MB ................... 192MB
128MB ................... 384MB
256MB ................... 768MB
384MB .................. 1152MB
512MB .................. 1536MB
768MB .................. 2304MB
1GB .................. 3072MB
2GB .................. 4095MB


Rule of thumb is 1.5 x ram. So that would be 128 x 1.5=192

Do you have a cluttered task bar? Hit Ctrl-alt-del and report what it says under processes and performance.

yeah, i think so. there aer 39 running processes when i start up my comp. i don't know how to get rid of them. i used adaware/virus scan, but they are still there. they use something like 5-10 percent of my cpu.

Click Start>Run and type msconfig
Click the Startup tab, here you can stop processes from running at Startup
