Hello, fixandfly. Thank you for being patient while I reviewed your log!

Your log looks pretty good overall. I have just a few issues here…

You have some entries in your log indicating you have an Internet Explorer toolbar called SideStep. This used to be adware, but is no longer considered such. I wanted to check with you to see if you purposely installed it. If not then please consider it’s removal. I will mark the optional SideStep entries in GREEN.

Important: Copy this page into Notepad & save it. You may also want to print out a copy of these instructions in case you are unable to access Notepad during the fix. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order they are presented. If there is anything that you don't understand, ask me about it before proceeding with the fixes. It is important to close all browsers (Internet Explorer, My Computer, etc.) or windows when you are running any scans, tools, or HJT.

You are running Hijack This from a temporary directory. It needs to be in a permanent folder. Please go into Windows Explorer, click on C:\ then click on File > New > Folder and call it HJT , or another name of your choice. The program creates backup files that we may need to use later. If the program is in a Temporary folder, files may be deleted by you or automatically if your system is set to empty temp files.
NOTE: The program, CleanUp!, that you will be downloading will clean out the temp folders. HJT must be moved first, otherwise it will be deleted.

Enable the viewing of hidden files/folders:
Go to My Computer > View > Folder Options > “View” tab, and make sure that “Show all files” is checked under the “Hidden Files” section. Also make sure there is no checkmark beside “Hide file extensions for known file types”.

Downloads:
CleanUp!
The Temp folders are a popular place for malware to hide out, plus installation programs tend to leave a lot of junk in there. Download and install CleanUp! to clean out your temps, but do not run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode. (Tap the F8 key until menu shows up.)

Uninstall Bad Programs:
Uninstall the following via “Add/Remove”, if they still exist. (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs)
SideStep

HiJackThis Entries:
Run a scan in HijackThis. Place a check mark next to the following entries if they still exist:
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {965A592F-8EFA-4250-8630-7960230792F1} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll
O9 - Extra button: SideStep - {3E230861-5C87-11D3-A1C6-00105A1B41B8} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll
O16 - DPF: {640B39C1-D713-464F-92C3-75BD972B95EE} - http://www.sidestep.com/get/k42037/sb02a.cab

Please make sure to close all open windows & browsers, then click Fix Checked.

File Deletions:
Delete the following FILES indicated in RED and FOLDERS indicated in BLUE, if they still exist:
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll

Run Cleanup!:
Configure the program as follows:
  1. Click Options...
  2. Move the arrow down to Custom CleanUp!
  3. Put a check next to the following:
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Cookies
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • [X]Scan local drives for temporary files (Please uncheck this option)
    • Cleanup! All Users
  4. Click OK
  5. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program. Reboot/logoff when prompted.
* CleanUp! will delete all the files in your temp folders without making a backup!

Online Scan:
Now do an online scan at Panda ActiveScan
  1. Click on the Scan your PC button & a 'pop up' window shall appear. * ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
  2. Click On 'Next'
  3. Enter your e-mail address & click 'Send' ...begins downloading Panda's ActiveX controls.- 8MB
  4. In the next window, & checkmark the following:
    • Disinfect automatically
    • Scan compressed files
    • Scan e-mail files
    • Detect unknown viruses (heuristic)
    • Detect spyware
  5. Begin the scan by selecting All My Computer
    * You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
  6. If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report. Click on see report
  7. Then click Save report
  8. Post the contents of the report in your next reply

Suspicious Files:
You have a few suspicious files in your log that I would like to take a closer look at.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\XWatDog.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [XGIWatchDog] XWatDog.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RegServer] regserve.exe
I have been able to find very little information on these two files. Have you seen them before or know what they are associated with? Are you running any sort of surveillance equipment, perhaps by Remote Eye? Are you using an XGI video card? I’d like you to do two things:
  1. Navigate to “XWatDog.exe” & “regserve.exe” in turn and open their properties, (Right click on the icon & click on Properties).
For “regserve.exe” you should do a search to determine it’s full path. (This will be important in step 2)
    • Click the “Version” tab
    • Under “Item Name” you should see several items
    • Click on “Company” & “Product Name”, in turn, & tell me what it says in the “Value” box to the right.
  2. Upload both files to Jotti for analysis.
    • Once at the site press the “Browse” button
    • Navigate to the first file, select, and click “Open
This should bring you back to the webpage.
    • Click “Submit” on the Jotti webpage
It may take a while to upload the files & analyze them. You should then be presented with another page listing results for several different scanners. Please let me know if they found anything. Do this with both files.

In your next reply, please post the following:
  1. Fresh HJT log
  2. Panda scan report
  3. What you decided to do with SideStep
  4. The Company & Product name from the Properties of the two Jotti submissions
  5. The results of the two Jotti submissions

Hello:

First question I do have a XGI Volori V3 Vidio Card

It does use

XWatDog.exe
regserve.exe

When I did version or company noame it came up to XGI Technoligy,

Version was 6.14.1.1120

I could not find

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll

I do know from the past that the Panda log is very large.
Do you still want me to run it?

Thanks

Fixandfly

Hello. Your log looks pretty good now. Just a few more things:

It's okay that you didn't find the "SbCIe02a.dll" file, as it was probably deleted during the uninstallation of SideStep.

Please go ahead & run the Panda scan & post the results. If it catches enough malware to be too large to post, (which I doubt), then you can either run it a second time or we'll try a different scanner.

Thanks,

RM

Your close...

Download KillBox http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/KillBox.zip

Reboot into safe mode...

Run KILL box. Paste the following locations into KILL BOX one at a time. Checkmark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and checkmark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now...click NO...and proceed with the next file. Once you get to the last one click YES and it will reboot.

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll
C:\Documents and Settings\Dad and Mom\Desktop\GutterballSetup-dm.exe

Once you reboot..run another Panda scan and post it's log.

Hello again fixandfly! You are very close indeed! Your HJT log is clean, I just want to get those last two items that Panda found.

  1. Please be sure that the viewing of hidden/system files is enabled:

Go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > “View” tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible too.

  2. Disable TeaTimer/Resident

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
    • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
    • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
    • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
    • Expand the "Tools" menu.
    • Click "Resident".
    • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
    • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

  3. Do a manual search for C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll

    1. Click ”Start
    2. Go to ”Search”, then ”For Files or Folders
    3. Click “All files and folders
You will see a box labeled “All or part of the file name
    4. Type the following (without quotes): “ SbCIe02a.dll
    5. Click the “Search” button.
In the pane on the right you should see the search results. (Hopefully SbCIe02a.dll will be present) The column labeled “In Folder” should read “C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files”.
    6. Place your cursor over the “ SbCIe02a.dll” icon in the right hand pane under the “Name” column, and Right Click
    7. Scroll down the menu & choose “Delete
    8. Click “Yes
Please let me know if you are able to find the file & successfully delete it.

  4. Flush your System Restore points:

    Turn off System Restore:
    1. Right-click "My Computer"
    2. Click "Properties"
    3. Click the "System Restore" tab
    4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
    5. Click "Apply"
When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted.
      • Click "Yes" to proceed
    6. Click "OK"
    Reboot your System.

    Turn on System Restore
    1. Right-click "My Computer"
    2. Click "Properties"
    3. Click the "System Restore" tab
    4. Un-Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
    5. Click "Apply"
    6. Click "OK"
Note: It is very important to remember to turn system restore back on after reboot! If you do not, System Restore will remain deactivated & you will not have any previous points to restore back to should it become necessary to do so.

Please do another Panda scan & post back with the log.

Okay, lets try another approach.

Please right click here, and select "Save as". The file should be named "Del.bat", and save it to your Desktop. Once it is downloaded, double click the "Del.bat" icon on the Desktop. The program should run & then produce a log. Please copy & paste the contents of the log in your next reply.

Hello. Yes, you're very close now! The del.bat program is a custom batch file (courtesy of skate_punk_21) designed to search out & delete the "SbCIe02a.dll" file we were having trouble killing. These two items are hiding in the System Restore files. Let's try one more flush of the restore points:

Turn off System Restore:
  1. Right-click "My Computer"
  2. Click "Properties"
  3. Click the "System Restore" tab
  4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
  5. Click "Apply"
When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted.
    • Click "Yes" to proceed
  6. Click "OK"
Reboot your System.

Turn on System Restore
  1. Right-click "My Computer"
  2. Click "Properties"
  3. Click the "System Restore" tab
  4. Un-Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
  5. Click "Apply"
  6. Click "OK"
Note: It is very important to remember to turn system restore back on after reboot! If you do not, System Restore will remain deactivated & you will not have any previous points to restore back to should it become necessary to do so.

This should do it. Please post a fresh HJT log (in Normal mode) so I can make sure you're clean. Also let me know if you're experiencing any further problems.
