Heat Related?

1085 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  STS91
Ok i have a HP XP computer that the desktp theme is choppy, and some flash-heavy sites wont load properly. As it suffered heat related damage or could somthing eles be causing this. This is a backup computer, and is not used that much. It just started this the other day, and just had xp put back on it after it crashed. When i got it back it was fine, and then this problem listed above started.

Thanks.

Multiple Possibilities...

There are several things that could be causing these symptoms. Of course, heat is an obvious possibility. I would also check your System Information utility to view how much RAM is actually available. RAM loss is a common issue that causes the choppiness & the flash-heavy site lag.

Another issue that would be useful to check is the video card. Make sure that the fan is still running freely on it. Also, run a video check. Most video cards these days come with the software for these checks. If you don't have any, you can download some here.

That's where I'd start. If that doesn't fix it, just post back and I'll try to help you further.
If you don't do this already, blow the dust out of all the heatsinks and fans, this ends 90% of heat problems. I had a dust bunny farm in my old CPU and it caused the same as you are talking about.
Hi

Flash sites are in connection with Adobe Flashplayer or connection problems not heat. As a start, do you have the latest version of Flash? Adobe Flash Player 9.0.28.0

Download, install and run this, post the temperatures, fans speeds, and voltages please: Sensors View

How old is the HP?
Has it ever been cleaned out?
If you get 6 yrs out of a hp psu, you should feel fortunate.
