I just downloaded Vonage's Softphone service which allows me to make and receive calls on my computer. I've got a Compaq nx6120 laptop, and I purchased the Logitech ClearChat Stereo PC headset.

My problem: The headset and microphone only seem to work when the laptop's speaker is enabled. This allows anyone else in the room to hear my conversations. I'd like to be able to mute my laptop speaker and still have my headset and microphone work so I may make and receive calls without broadcasting them to others in the room.

Any ideas/assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi AML,

Try dropping into your 'Control Panel' and opening up 'Sounds and Audio Devices'. Once in there, click on the 'Audio' tab and check your 'Sound Playback - Default Device'. Just a note that before you do this, make sure your headset is plugged-in! You may be able to drop it down to 'Logitech' or similar and not have it blaring out of the speaker at the same time!

Thanks much for your suggestion, CriticalPoint. Unfortunately, the headphones don't require any software installation and don't show up on my hardware profile or in the Audio Tab->Sound Playback Default Device. Consequently, my issue still remains. :(
