Hi all,

I have a Steelseries Syberia headset, although unfortunately the cable broke right at the plugs. Normally I'd try to fix it myself by just stripping the cables and twisting it back together and then put some tape on it, easy pz.

Although this time I noticed that the smaller cables, inside the actual cable, are instead of plastic on the outside and copper on the inside; copper on the outside, and some sort of (fibre) thread on the inside. I still tried the same method, but it doesn't seem to work.... Does anyone have any experience with these kinds of cables? And if so, how do I fix it :/

Thanks for any help

The material on the inside is for strength (to help keep the thin copper strands from breaking). That type of cable isn't easily patched/twisted/soldered together. And most often, when you do get it working it doesn't last long.

By the way...would it be possible to fix if I buy a new plug and solder the cables?
Is it possible? Yes of course. How long it stays working before you need to "fix" it again is a different question altogether. Those copper wires are most likely coated with some insulating paint that must be removed (using heat) before soldering to the pin-plug. If you manage to solder the new plug and have them working, you'll want to firmly secure the cable to the jack pin because a slight tug will break the frail wires at the solder joints. If done right, the fix will hold for a very long time.
