I just recently upgraded my graphics card from an 8800GT to an HD6850.

With my old card I was able to run 9 videos of 720p resolution at the same time (using separate VLC media player instances); but since I upgraded my card I seem to be unable to accomplish this as it starts lagging/skipping tremendously after I open up 6 videos at once.

My new card should be much more powerful as you can see by these: Hardware Comparison Charts.

I've messed around with the VLC options and the Catalyst Control Center video and gaming options but to no avail; does anyone know of a way to increase GPU video playback performance other than the options in CCC?

Is the ATI card simply not capable?

You need to be at 650W minimum with a good quality PSU for the 6850.
SeaSonic-XFX-Corsair (not the CX-GS-M Series).
Remove one of the 2GB RAM sticks to take advantage of Dual Channel Mode.

The Newegg Calculator tells me I need 471W and the card says 500W recommended and I'm running a 550W. Also, doesn't the card give you a message when it's not running at full power? I seem to be able to run skyrim pretty well on high graphics.
