HD not recognized by BIOS

1719 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  cashy
when i go into the BIOS my cd drive is recognized as device one. and a floppy which is no longer plugged into the computer is device 2 and I have other devices set to "yes". I tried unplugging the HD and running the machine and then plugging the Hd back in and running it and it worked. but now, it wont recognize again and I tried my old method of unplugging and replugging a dozen times.

it is a SATA and i just have one HD for my computer.

Anyone have any suggestions? BIOS settings, new hardware, anything....

whats going on?

That some times happens to me - and in my (computer's) case it's a bad connection between the HDD and the power supply.
try the connection fix>>>>> thats a very common sata problem

there are better cables available too

please explain further, i think too that it could simply be a connection problem. what is the best way to tackle this? thank you for your responses.
Hi!
Try this:
In BIOS - set the HDD as boot device #2
Check the connections once again
When you start the computer - can you feel the HDD spinning? If not - try to tighten the metal in the plug from the PSU.
it has been my experience that sata connectors are awkward to keep firmly connected, I found the adoption of the 90 degree sata cables helped alot in that regard, along wih some cable ties to keep the cable snuggly in place.

By securing the sata cable to the side of the drive mount of other firm object you should be able to reduce the amount of "travel" in your sata data & power cables.
thank you.
going to fry's electronics tomorrow.
