I have a Lenovo Idea Center K210 running Vista Home Premium. Yesterday, it froze and now will not boot. I keep getting the following message: "PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable" followed by: "PXE - MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent." If I hit the enter key, I then get: "Reboot and select proper boot devide or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."

I've gone into the BIOS configuration utility and it does not recognize the hard drive. (Under Primary IDE Master, it says "Not detected.")

I'm a novice at this and wonder what else I can do. I understand I might need to open up the chassis and check the IDE controller and hard drive for broken pins, any cut cable connectors, and the connection between the power connector and the hard drive. Is that the next thing I should do or is there something else I should try?

Thanks for any suggestions!

The drive is listed as "SATA#1" (under ATA Drive Setup in the Device tab) and under the Startup tab, I changed the first boot option to hard drive (under both Primary and Auto start-up) but this didn't affect things once I re-started. (Also, the PXE messages disappeared when I disabled PXE under network in the Device tab but I still got the "reboot and select proper boot device..." message.)

Any other suggestions?

When I click on "SATA#1," the menu which appears lists enhanced, compatible and disabled. I forgot to mention that there are entries below "Sata#1," including Primary IDE Master -- with Not Detected to the right, Primary IDE Slave, Secondary IDE Master, etc.
Changing enhanced to compatible under SATA#1 didn't affect anything.

Sounds like a hardware failure. Is the drive spinning, can you tell? If you can, re-seat all the cables, or replace the cable, if that doesn't work then take the drive out and put it into another computer or external usb case and see.

I have already re-set the cables for the hard-drive and checked the power cable to make sure it was secure. I'll see if I can find another computer in which to try the hard drive.
