Somehow I went into the Sounds and Audio Properties and changed the device in Sound Recording from Micrphone to wav in and I can't change it back. Anyone have any ideas?

What do you mean you can't change it back?
Whatever I accidentally did, changed my selection to read "wave in" and I can no longer view any other volume controls even if I go into Advanced. I would like to have it display "Microphone" as it did before. Thanks!

I originally noticed that the settings had changed when I was attempting to help someone with their settings, and I set mine to where I can't get it back to how it was beforehand. Additionally, I just noticed that my speakers aren't working any longer either when I tried to play some music from my pc, so this has affected my entire sound settings. Thanks for the help!

Are there no other options in that menu or will it just not let you change the setting?

Go ahead and check in your device manager and see if there are any yellow exclamaion marks or red x's

UGH!!!!!!!! I just typed an extremely lengthy reply and closed my browser accidentally and lost EVERYTHING!!! Serves me right for elaborating too much!! :4-thatsba :upset:  LOL LOL

Well, I'll lick my wound and make this very simple. Perhaps if you have some free time for about 5 mins, then I can screenshare with you to show you what is happening. I was going to also take a bunch of screenshots, but this might be a much simpler way.

Please let me know if this is cool with you and we can schedule a time and I'll run you through quickly the main idea of what's the problem. My timezone is Pacific time in California.

I'll talk with you soon.

I typically visit this forum from work and am unable to make a direct connection due to network restrictions.

You may consider updating your Audio Drivers, or uninstalling and reinstalling them.

BAD BAD BAD, wasting precious company time/resources on mindless forums!! hehe jk

To be honest though, I couldn't imagine how changing my audio settings would make my driver corrupt. Let me take a couple screenshots and perhaps you can figure out what might be the solution by looking. If you can't figure out anything after this, then maybe I'll consider reinstalling the driver.

So, on the 3rd screenshot I have clicked on the "Volume" button in the middle area for "Sound Recording" and it I can't seem to find a way to choose anything other than the "Wave In" when I have the USB headset selected as the device.

Now, as shown in screenshots 4 and 5, when I change the device either by directly changing it inside the Sounds and Audio Properties box or inside the Volume options, the Recording Controls change.

So, based on all of this, can you make heads or tails of what needs to be done?
