I recently returned a new Dell Dimension XPS GEN 4 with XP Pro SP2 pre installed. The XP Cd did not come with my new computer so I asked dell for 1, they sent me 4. 1-XP Home SP2 & 3-XP Pro SP2 CD's when I asked what needed to be returned they said keep the CD not knowing they sent me 4.

My question is, are all of the XP cd's garbage because I don’t have the 25 COA CD Key just a product ID im told on the plastic wrapper? I am currently using my original computer with win 98se and all is fine and I am not trying to pull a fast one here to get the cd key and I am just curious. I called dell and they said they could not help me. Thank you.

If they don't have a COA CD Key then they aren't legal, and you can use them as coasters.

Do you have a 25 digit COA sticker on the side of the computer? If it came preinstalled, you should have this.

Stu, I am opening this back up so he can answer my question. Dell does send out cd's with the code because it should be on the sticker on your computer.
