Hi All

I'm having a strange problem.

My motherboard is intel845gvsr.
i'm using logitech multimedia keyboard, samsung optical mouse & samsung samtron monitor CRT

After i switch on my pc,my monitor is not showing any display. It is behaving as if it is in "stand by mode" the LED is glowing continuously.when i removed monitor cable...it shows "check signal cable". i'm not able to see any display...so unable to check the BIOS settings also.

my mouse is working fine during boot & after boot.

But in my keybaord...all the lights blink at time of booting (i hope POST is happening fine)...but turns off immediately & keyboard doesn't work after that

i used to get a beep sound after all the devices are initialized...but now i'm not getting any beep... my dvd writer, usb ports are getting power.SMPS fan & Processor fan are working.even Motherboard LED is glowing

i took the RAM & replace it again.unplugged all the power cables..replugged again.upto my knowledge no s/w updates done recently.the last time i remember i put my pc on hibernation some 2 weeks back...

is the problem with motherboard/keyboard/power supply/monitor or anything else??

any problem with display drivers???

i'm not able to figure out....plz help

thnx in advance

Can be a Motherboard CPU Ram or power-supply. Do you have a Display Card installed or using an onboard video. Make sure all power cable IDE connections are secure. Clean the RAM Slots with a soft brush carefully and reinstall the RAM Sticks again. Are there any beep sounds when turning on the Workstation. Also remove the CMOS battery for couple of minutes and put it back again This is not related to drivers as you stated you even can't look at bios screen

my pc is custom built...assembling is done some 3 years back...it worked perfectly untill last 2 months...no problem ever..since i have taken precautions while assembling...

processor- p4 2.4GHz
Ram -256MB -hynix -DDR1
SMPS -400W/600VA -Intex (not sure) (replaced old smsps...1 year back)
Motherboard -Intel 845GVSR
Mouse-Samsung optical mouse
Monitor-Samtron CRT 15"
Keyboard-Logitech multimedia
DVD-RW Samsung Writemaster
Speakers - Mercury 440W
HDD-80GB Seagate SATA (replaced samsung hdd some 6 months back)
UPS -Microtek

No Additional (video/sound) cards present..Motherboard LED is glowing..

I didn't get any specific errors during pc operation...but used to get wrong time & date.So replaced CMOS battery...still no use.

my pc refused to start when i put in hibernation....this problem started some 3 months back..when i shutdown the pc & switch on again it used to work properly.

some months back..my smps & cpu fans were rotating only for 5-6 iterations & used to stop.At that time i used to take RAM out...clean & replace. Also I used to plug out power connections & replug all connections..

But at present I'm not facing any problems in SMPS & CPU fan spinning..

Let me know if any more details are needed...

thnx in advance

My best guess is that you have two different problems. First of all, you have a junk brand name power supply and most likely the rig is underpowered with only 400 watts which translates into much less than 400 with a junk brand name. Tell us what video card you have and we can better guide you.

In addition, I am surprised you are not having other issues with only 256 K of memory on a Windows XP machine. You should have a bare minimum of 512 K for proper operation.

256MB RAM is sufficient for XP.I used to play games like NFS till Underground 2 without any additional graphics card.As i mentioned earlier..no additional graphics card present.

I tested my RAM..it is working on another pc perfectly.I bought new RAM & replaced SMPS & tested..still no use...I suspect port problem on motherboard.Any suggestions???

256MB of RAM is "sufficient" but not ideal for proper Operation of XP.
Try borrowing a good quality PSU & Bench Test
Remove everything from the case.
Set the motherboard on a non conductive surface. The motherboard box is perfect for this. DO NOT PLACE THE MOTHERBOARD ON THE STATIC BAG! It can actually conduct electricity!
Install the CPU and heat sink.
Install 1 stick of RAM.
Install the video card and attach the power supply connection(s) to the card if your card needs it.
Connect the monitor to the video card.
Connect the power supply to the motherboard with both the 24pin main ATX Power connection and the separate 4 or 8 pin power connection.
Connect power to the power supply.
Do NOT connect ANYTHING else. Make sure you have the power connector on the CPU fan connected.
Use a small screwdriver to momentarily short the power switch connector on the motherboard. Consult your motherboard manual to find which two pins connect to your case's power switch. Then touch both pins with a screwdriver to complete the circuit and boot the system.

If all is well, it should power up and you should get a display. Then assemble the parts into the case and try again. If the system now fails to boot, you have a short in the case and need to recheck your motherboard standoffs.

If the system does not boot after this process, then you most likely have a faulty component. You'll need to swap parts, start with the power supply, until you determine what is defective
