i was trying to use an external harddrive enclosure to back up win 2k harddrive with 20 gigs of data. enclosure was supposed to be plug and play for win 2k and xp. This device corupted some files on my harddrive and it will now not boot up. i have xp on my system now with new harddrive is there anyway that i can recover data on old harddrive

I used it recently on a corrupted drive and recovered over 20gig of data. It takes a few hours to find and recover the damaged/lost files, but it works very well.

It's recommended that you save the recovered files to a different drive to prevent overwriting of the original data, so either your external or another internal drive should work.
