Hello.

Ever since I restarted the other day my hard drive has been reseting at the startup screen. It goes to the Windows XP screen with the green loading bar, then the hard drive resets, and the same thing happens again, in a constant loop. I've tried restarting in safe mode, but it still happens. I even tried recovery, which formatted the hard drive and put a fresh XP install on there. One problem with that though, I can't get to the XP installation process because the hard drive resets.

What can I do?

Re: Hard drive resets on startup

I have a "Restore DVD" that does nothing. Tried booting from the cd drive but that fails.

By resetting I mean, it turns off and goes back on. I have it out and I can clearly see it turning off. Hard drive turning off, means restart. Thus, loop.

Re: Hard drive resets on startup

(Sorry for the double post. I can't edit.)

Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be? I'm thinking the hard drive may be shot. It's a WD2500BB Caviar.

It is absolutely essential that I get this figured out. I have no computer usage and I may be going through withdrawl....

Yes, you can.

As soon as you boot up press F12 (depending on your computer it could be DEL, F1, etc - just mess around with the keys, it can't hurt anything) and select "CD-ROM/DVD/ROM" or something implying that.
