I have 2 WD 2TB drives that I want to use in a Raid 1 configuration. I ordered what I thought were 2 WD20EARS drives, but one ended up being a WD20EADS. Can I use these 2 drives together in a Raid 1 config? Not sure if it matters, but they will be used in a D-Link DNS 321 housing. I am not overly concerned about the read/write speed or access speed since this will mainly be to store old personal photos so we will not be editing or anything much more than viewing and maybe printing a few from time to time once they are on the drive(s).

The seller offered a refund for one of the drives, but if I don't need to go thru the hassle of returning a drive, waiting for my refund, buying the new one etc... then I won't.

Thanks, Lance.

Hi Lance,

I recently did a new system build for someone who wanted to use 2 2tb hdd's configured in a raid1 setup- one was a green series, the other a black, both WD. Windows7 would install and then on the first reboot, it would fail - saying nothing more than it could not complete with the hardware configuration. After testing every hardware component I decided to install windows on a single drive. It completed without any issues. So I blew away the partition, set up the array again in raid1, but this time I pulled the green drive prior to running the installation. It installed just fine. The green drive is installed as a secondary drive for music/movie storage and works fine. But it didn't work well with the black drive. He ordered another black drive to put in the broken array. Hope this helps.
