hard drive problem cant use 4 of 6 gigs of space

i used a compaq restore disk on my deskpro computer and the restore disk was for an nt windows system the operating system i have is windows 98 se and now i have lost 4 gigs of the 6 gigs on my hard drive to a partition i cant get to. i need to reformat all of the hard disk and reinstall windows how do i do that when i cant get to the partition for nt? help!

John: Get hold of Partition Magic (my favourite) or Google for a disk partitioning utility. Partition Magic will "see" and be able to merge the hidden partition for you (and give you full access to the entire drive again).

Kill disk, System Commander, Partition Magic... and even the Windows 98 System/Boot floppy will delete the partion once you click Non-DOS or Non-FAT
Delete all partitions, reboot, create new partition, reboot. Format. Reboot, then treat as normal with your existing discs.
