Hi there folks... New to the site and would appreciate any and all help/advice that you may have that will help me solve my dilemma... A couple of weeks ago my hard drive crapped out on me and after disecting all of the syptoms I figured out it was a hard drive mechanical failure... Obviously I wasn't smart enough to back my stuff up (yes, lesson learned), so here I am in need of help... I cannot afford to head to a tech place that is going to charge me an arm and a leg to save my files, so I did some research and read several threads on the internet... I purchased a USB Shell and hooked up the laptop hard drive to another lap top... After verifying that the hard drive was registering I downloaded the evaluation edition of GetData to see what files it could find on the hard drive... After days of searching it finally completed the process and came up with somewhere in the vicinity of 270,000 files... I purchased the actual version of GetData and transferred the found files to a folder on the other laptop... When I do a properties search of the folder, it shows that there is roughly 277GB of info... However when I open the file and go into the subfolders with the information that I need to save or retrieve, it shows the file name with no number under the size of the file... Upon trying to open any file it says that it is unable to as it is either not compatible, damaged, compenent missing, or corrupt file (this goes for any type of file, i.e. - JPG, Word, Mp3)... I really need to save this stuff so if you can give me any clue to do so it would be greatly appreciated... I am currently running Windows 7 I believe and it's an HP laptop (about 2 years old)...
