What is the make and model of the drive, sounds more like an HPA got set some how. Try this http://blog.atola.com/restoring-factory-hard-drive-capacity/ read the faq at the bottom for useage.

Hello,
I recently acquired a 500Gb Hdd from work that we used a program called WipeDrive on. the problem is that it is only recognizing 9Gb of space on it and it it not partitioned. is there a way to get the drive back to the 500 or should i just drill some holes in it?

i would try this but i cant because that program is not supported by linux. and i tried to install XP sp2, but i keep getting blue screened.
