One of my old comupters melted down and I recovered the hard drive from it. It is a Hitachi Deskstar 80gig model # # IC35L090AVV207-0. I put the drive in an enclosure - a "Port Authority2" (described here: Cables To Go Support Page). The manual for the enclosure says Windows should have a driver for it unless you're running Windows98, in which case the manufacturer offers a driver.
It worked on my XP machine for a couple years that way, then suddenly stopped. None of my computers will recognize it now. My laptop runs vista and my computer at work is running Windows 7. The drive is 'seen' by the computer as an "unknown device" but it isn't recognized as a disk drive and there is no driver installed to operate it.
I have most of the files on it backed up, but haven't backed it up in a few months and would sure like to access it! Anyone have any ideas?
