Hi,

I have a compaq Presario Model SR1220NX. 4 Nights ago, I was looking on Google on directions on how to cut my hair into a shag. A porn site opened from one of the postings. DOH! I closed it really fast, went to the next Google page and the same site opened. I didn't see the word "shag" in the title of the porn site in the second I saw it before slamming it closed, nor did I see an address.

The next night I turned on the computer and a black screen came up saying "Hard drive is bad. Back up your files and replace". I did the backup and dealt with HP online and phone. I arranged to send tower in for repairs for $280 which I can't afford. I then cancelled it after running scans on the hard drive thru HP Help and Support. It was also advised that maybe I run the recovery disc and start all over. I put the recovery dvd disc into the player and guess what? The dvd drive won't read dvds anymore. It will play cds, read any video info on them and it played the slide show on the lens cleaner but no dvds. They don't even show up as being in the player. Can this all be a virus? I did a malicious software scan and there was nothing. I did a RegCure scan. It found 900 problems with the puter then asked for like $50. Panda found 4 rootkits and 11 spywares. I use adware and hadn't scanned yet. Right now I am downloading new bios for the player.

While investigating the entire computer I found that the PNP ISA/EISA Bus Driver was critical and the PCI Bus Driver is also critical.

Can this all be from a virus? I need to get the dvd player, which I never use, working so I can run system recovery. Good ideas??

Thanks,
Nancy

That was some crazy drive-by right there! What anti-virus do you have? I would highly recommend that you have at least a free anti-virus, because viruses can come from unexpected places (Avast once blocked a virus from Photobucket)!

I hope you did not let it make any changes . . those junkware programs are a scam and often do more harm than good.

Take Deleteds' advice and post in the Virus section
