Recently I had both XP and Ubuntu installed on different partitions on my HDD. GRUB was installed with the Ubunutu install. I decided I didn't want Ubuntu installed anymore, so deleted the partition it was on. This foobed the GRUB install, and it just errors and won't load any OS.

I've lost my original XP cd, so have tried to burn a boot cd, but none of them seem to work, and when I hold 'r' to try to get to the recovery console it only goes to Dr. Dos. Here I try to either re-write the MBR, which it won't do because the original MBR can't be overwritten. Because I can't get to the recovery console I can't do FIXMBR, and fdisk /mbr doesn't get me anywhere.

trying to reinstall ubuntu gets me nowhere as i can't seem to boot from the cd.

So, I'm very stuck, what do I do?

Thanks
