grinding noise

i have recently noticed a grinding noise on startup in xp sp2,my computer is only 12 months old.also programs seem to be taking longer than normal to load.i have also noticed that sometimes it will not boot first time around-so i have to boot a second time.:mad:

A grinding noise coming from the harddrive is never good.
I would back up anything I wanted to keep. Go to manufacturer of
the harddrives website and download there diagnostic utility, run
a check see what it reports. Even if it checks out good I would
still be leery...
