This is usually not a problem, as I run my monitor off of the output on my graphics card. However, I have a projector that I wish to use which only has a vga cable for input. My graphics card has a dvi port and two hdmi ports, so I cannot plug the cable in there.

However, my motherboard has a vga port in addition to the dvi port. However, nothing I do can make my computer recognize the projector plugged into the vga port. What can I do to fix this problem?

Most all motherboards disable the onboard video chipset when a video card is installed.

In other words, it's normal operation.
ditto , you can either get a dvi to vga converter for your graphics card or possibly change it to a similar card that has the inputs you like to use.

You need to physically remove the GPU to use the Onboard Graphics.
