After the same suggestions

I'm up for the same thing too. At least I think so. Trying to work out that it definately is my video card thats broken but I have very little $$ and want something to match/beat my Nvidia Geforce 4 ti 4600 Ultra. Looks like the 9600 might be the way to go, seems to win on most of the benchmarks I've seen against those other cards.
If you're absolutely stuck with a $70 limit then the Radeon 9600 Pro Advantage is the best at www.newegg.com in your price range. It's not a "real" 9600 Pro because the video RAM is running at 450MHz or so and a real 9600 Pro has 600MHz RAM. But it's the best deal at $70 or under. The next better card is a 9600XT but it's $88. You won't benefit from 256MB in video cards in this speed range so you should just look at 128MB cards. The Radeon 9550,9600s definitely beat the GeForce 5500s in DirectX 9 shader speed so you should just skip the GeForce 5500s.
