Graphics card crashing while playing games

938 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Flapjack McGee
I just installed a VisionTek Radeon 1GB HD 3650 factory overclocked graphics card, and when I try to play games like Portal or World In Conflict, I eventually get a black screen, kicked back to Windows and the error message "the graphics card quit responding, and was reset by VPU recover" then my game will resume until it happens again. I am running Windows XP, have 2Gb ddr2 RAM, and a 2.4GHZ Intel Core 2 Quad processor...Any suggestions?

Welcome to tsf. What power supply is in the system? Make model wattage. And what motherboard?

Also do you have the latest driver for both the card and motherboard? Do you have the latest bios?
300w power supply(which is what it recommends), elitegroup gf7100pvt-m3 motherboard installed maybe 2 months ago. all drivers updated, tried going to the omega drivers to fix it, uninstalled/reinstalled, didnt help. I just spoke with visiontek tech support, and they say the VPU recover error indicates a hardware malfunction internal to the card. Im going to go exchange it now...Ill be back here if the replacement one does the same thing. thx
