Google Maps bypassing my VPN? How?

Hi guys,

This is my first message here. I've been reading you for quite a bit though.

I recently signed up for the services of a VPN (quite well known) and got it working, no problem on that side.

All IP-tracing websites do seem to locate me in the U.S. BUT Google Maps which is able to find me (at first at a couple hundred yards from here, and now even more precisely). How is this possible? Is Google Maps bypassing the VPN?

How does it work?

Any of you guys willing to make the test for me through your VPN? Activate the "locate me" option in Google Chrome (or firefox, I believe) and go to Google Maps, there will be a small button on left hand side of the map.

Cheers!

Ok, so there are 2 major options here. One is that your VPN is crap (a problem on their end). The more likely option is that there is some configuration problem on your end. Could you give more specifics about this connection?

What VPN are you using?

Are you connecting wirelessly or wired?
