Hi all,

I built my PC about 12 months ago using a Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 motherboard. Everything has been working flawlessly since then until yesterday. I tried to turn my PC on and it would not boot. The fans start up and there appears to be power to the drives (the LEDs light up) however the screen remains blank. The PC speaker is emitting a beep code that means there is a power problem according to the manual. I have also noticed that the green power LED on the board and also the lights on the LAN port that show a connection are now not lit when the PC is plugged in (these are usually lit even when the PC is switched off however is still connected to the mains).

I have tried disconnecting or removing each component one item at a time (except for the CPU of course) to see if the problem is being caused by any of my other hardware however this has not made any difference. I don't believe there is a problem with my PSU as it still lights up when the power switch is pressed.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help me? I can't RMA the board because I bought it 12-1/2 months ago (bummer!).

Cheers,

Rob

Try turning on the computer with one stick of ram. Also if you have a spare videocard, try testing out a spare videocard on your computer. Borrow a friend's if you have to. Lastly try re-seating the cpu and also try clearing the cmos.

For sure it could be a hardware problem. Hopefully it is not a dead motherboard.

what
cpu
video card
power supply
brand
wattage
the only components you could remove that would make a difference to the power draw would be the cpu and video card anything else pulls very little power
you could have lost 90% of your power and would still see these running
