When you say
My avg. speed is 4mbps.
are you talking about internet download speed or file transfers over the network?

All the devices involved would have to support the higher speeds.
IE:If you mean internet, then your internet service provider, the entire route to your data source, and the modem,
If you mean network file transfers, the NICs in your other computers.

You may also be hardware limited by the computers themselves. Older machines just would not be able to keep up to gigabit speeds.

Well, 4mbytes/sec is pretty slow for almost any configuration. One issue may be one of the computers stuck in PIO mode for the disk access, check in Device Manager for the disk controllers and see what mode the drives are operating in.

Is one of the computers really slow when you work on it locally?
