Getting disconnected without actually being disconnected??

3970 Views 9 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  etaf
I keep getting disconnected from internet every once in while. Maybe for a minute or less, but there was never any obvious sign of disconnection, IE. my tray icon never says disconnected or limited connectivity. But there are signs of getting disconnected when I am either gaming or watching videos online. The video would buff a bit then get stucked, then loads after a few to 30 sec delay. When gaming, I would lag out or have everyone waiting for me to connect back (warcraft3, starcraft 2). When I am downloading files, this does not ever happened, no matter how big the file size is. This problem started a few days ago. I tried restart the modem but I cannot possible do that every 15 mins. Another problem that could possibly be also be the same is that I am connected but cannot browse websites. If I am downloading anything, it will still keep download, i just can't browse or log on to online games. However this problem existed since I moved.

It seems to me there aren't really any difference, but I couldn't browse and I did the test when I was getting disconnected from starcraft2.

I had Kaspersky trial for a while, not I never purchase it, so I am not using any firewall apart from win7 firewall or malware software. But I do regular scans with the Kaspersky Virus removal tool (in fact I just did it if it really was virus). The disconnection generally last from 10 sec to 15mins. However I have not been able to browse websites even with internet connection for hours to a day, although this rarely happens. I will post again once I experience any disconnections in safe mode.
Ok I still get disconnected on safe mode. Also I uninstalled Kaspersky a while ago already.
My roommate uses wireless and he had a similar problem last week, now he is fine. It almost as if its a flu and now I got it...I was on skype with a friend during the disconnection. And during this period, I was still online talking with her over skype, yet I was disconnected from games and cannot browse websites at all. I am thinking of reinstalling windows, but that is only as a last resort. It tried perhaps updating drivers but the problem persists.
