I am thinking about getting a new external harddrive. I have a budget of around $150.00. I have been looking at two drives. These are both from newegg.com.

1) Hitachi LifeStudio Plus 2TB USB 2.0 Black External Hard Drive HLSDPUB20001BBB

Newegg.com - HITACHI LifeStudio Plus 2TB USB 2.0 Black External Hard Drive HLSDPUB20001BBB (0S02678)

2) Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 3TB USB 2.0 Black External Hard Drive STAC3000100

Newegg.com - Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 3TB USB 2.0 Black External Hard Drive STAC3000100

Which one should I consider? I will mostly use this on my macbook pro.

All my external drives have either been Seagate or Western Digital. I've never owned an Hitachi one but I can tell that all the Seagate's I've owned have failed within two years, & that's without any abuse or rough handling.

My four WD drive's are still going strong. So given the choice that you have, it would be Hitachi, but give WD some serious thought also.

Hi dylan151,

Those look liked good drives. I've had a Seagate internal(not external) HDD and thankfully it lasted about 4yrs without any rough handling or abuse. I've also had good luck with Western Digital drives so you might want to check their HDDs out as well.
