Hello,
i was wondering:
1) what IS a soundcard
and
2) if im buying speakers, why would i want speakers that require me to get a sound card as opposed to speakers that do not need a sound card?
thank you all for your help!

a sound card processes the sound to the speakers
with no soundcard output either a card or onboard chip, your speakers are just ornaments=no sound

i suppose, then, that my question was:
why buy a new soundcard and not just with the one that your computer comes with?

If your speakers can match the quality, a nice PCI sound card will yield much better quality than onboard could. If you have crappy speakers, you probably wouldn't notice a difference.

I use the onboard sound in my PC and it sounds beautiful through my speakers. Just because it's integrated doesn't always mean it's crap.

Depends on the model of motherboard. On my motherboard, it sounds like trash. On most systems I've used there has been a noticeable difference between the onboard and a decent PCI soundcard.

I think it would be safe to assume that xerus did not build his computer. Major manufacturers use the cheapest components that they can.
