Whenever I boot up there are major graphics glitches such as random colored stripes, missing letters, colored letters, etc.

This in itself is merely an annoyance, except that very frequently now the screen will not refresh (looks like it is hanging but is not) and sometimes it will continuously refresh at the same time as it incorrectly redraws the screen.

The glitches remain even in safe mode.

It will also randomly crash now as well.

I have cleaned the AGP slot and the card, gotten the latest BIOS drivers, card drivers, windows drivers, etc.

I am also trying to reinstall WinXP in case it is a system problem, but i cannot because the invisible letters/colored stripes make it so that i cannot see the screen well enough to reinstall.

i am thinking it is a hardware problem with the ti4200 card itself because the glitches appear before windows loads and not when the motherboard BIOS loads.

Welcome to the forum myridnir,

Have you tried using a different monitor yet??? Since reading from your post you might of just gotten a bad video card but I'll also try a different monitor as well... (a known good one):D

If you have a spare PC, I'll go through the process of illimenation... One piece of hardware at a time... I'll try putting the TI4200 into antother PC to see if it works and do the same with the MB and the rest of the hardware... Have fun!!!:D

thanks for the suggestions, but i am 100% certain it is the video card that is at fault, not the MB or CPU, RAM, etc.

i just need to find out what is wrong with it and how (if i can) to fix it.

does anyone know if the BIOS on the video card can be reset?

Is your card still under warranty??? IMHO it'll be easier to just replace the video card...

If the card isn't under warranty, the prices of the TI4200 has come down and you could pick one up for about $100 at pcmall...

Or spend $200 to get the GeForce FX 5600 256mb DDR one.... :D

I had a similar problem with this card and found that it didn't like being set to 16bit. As soon as I set the display to 32bit all my troubles vanished.
;)

So....after I resolved that issue I went and bought the FX5600 anyway :D
