Gateway power button

Nearly two years ago I purchased a Gateway through I think HSN on tv, paid about $1000 for it, first the power cord frayed near the power port. I just got the power plug fixed, the computer had been sitting unused for a month till I had the power cord repaired, last night I plugged it in and charged it. This morning I went to turn it on but the power button was wedged at an angle upward and wouldn't push in, I got it unwedged and now it will push but it will not turn on the computer. I even tried pushing on the pad under the actual power key but it will not turn on the computer?:4-dontkno Anyone have this issue? What can I do to get it to work?

Thanks

hi laceykat,

open it up and see if under the power button there is small electronic board for the switch. sometimes the power button or pad cannot reach the actual switch at the bottom if somehow this has weakened or got broken. of course you need to do some removal, possibly a keyboard removal. d/load a service manual for your model to guide you in the process.
