Gateway PEW91 Not Charging

3582 Views 8 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  chasep
Hello. The problem I am having for this computer is no matter what, we cannot get it to charge. So far, the closest I've been to charging it is plugging in a power cord for a speaker, but it causes the battery light to blink orange, and if I use the original charger, nothing will happen. Is it possible to fix this without buying new parts?

Hello,

Look on the bottom of the laptop and see if there is a model number (example NV59)

I would suggest trying a different compatible charger.

Be careful using other power cords. If it is not the same voltage ratings as the original you could easily damage other components.

If you can't get the battery to charge using a good, compatible charger then the issue is most likely with the battery.
Try another charger.

It sounds like you have a faulty DC Jack that needs to be replaced.
lso, when we were able to get it to charge, we would have to put the charger cord in an awkward position such as the end facing up and the cord running under it
It appears that you have a Gateway NV Series N214

If it is not the charger then you have a problem with the DC Jack.

I believe this model uses a cabled DC Jack with you can replace or take to a local shop to have the repairs done.
Is it a possible do-it-yourself fix?
Probably better just replacing the DC Jack.

You can try searching ebay for a replacement jack to fit your model.
