Hello. The problem I am having for this computer is no matter what, we cannot get it to charge. So far, the closest I've been to charging it is plugging in a power cord for a speaker, but it causes the battery light to blink orange, and if I use the original charger, nothing will happen. Is it possible to fix this without buying new parts?

Hello,

Look on the bottom of the laptop and see if there is a model number (example NV59)

I would suggest trying a different compatible charger.

Be careful using other power cords. If it is not the same voltage ratings as the original you could easily damage other components.

If you can't get the battery to charge using a good, compatible charger then the issue is most likely with the battery.

The model number should either N214 or PEW91. Well when I took the computer apart, the pin inside the charging port would come loose. So I secured that in place, but no matter what it will not charge. I was going to take it to my friend's if he was allowed out, as he has other Gateway chargers. Also, when we were able to get it to charge, we would have to put the charger cord in an awkward position such as the end facing up and the cord running under it.

I'll try another charger as soon as I can, and if it doesn't work, is the laptop itself pretty much dead? Because I do not have the money to buy a new laptop, or the parts themselves.

It appears that you have a Gateway NV Series N214

If it is not the charger then you have a problem with the DC Jack.

I believe this model uses a cabled DC Jack with you can replace or take to a local shop to have the repairs done.

Well apparently, as I was looking around, the actual model number is NV55C49u. But I also do not have the money for the repairs/ replacement parts. Is it a possible do-it-yourself fix? If not, is there any site where I could get a cheap replacement port?
