any 32bit operating system (XP or Vista) cant use more than 3.5 gigs

Gateway FX541S 8GB of RAM? Vista Home 32-bit
My new PC is expandable to 8GB of RAM, would that be overkill? It has 3GB right now and everything moves along just fine. I'm not actually going to do any upgrading right now, but what it be worth it eventually? How much better would it be?
