gateway 838gm
pentium 4
200gb sata hd
1gb ddr

Was working fine then no power. inserting power cord powered on(green light) for less than a second.
Replaced 550 watt atx power supply with 600 watt atx power supply. new power supply passes the test when plugs are attached to a $15 Dr.Power test device.
Now will not power on. No power except for a green light by the 24 pin connector. Power on button will not turn on fan, no hard drive spin. Unplugged battery and held power on switch for 30 seconds.
I am certain that all plugs are attached same as before.
Are there any tricks like a reset or cutoff associated with skins being attached properly?
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Gateway 838GM won't power on

To test to see if its your power switch Use the reset switch as your power switch. Refer to your motherboard manual for proper connection. It sounds like a faulty switch or maybe there is a loose connection. The wires that connect the power switch to the board are usually located bottom right of the mother board. Switch the reset button for the power button. If you can turn it on then obviously it`s the switch.
You should be able to get the manual from gateways site.

Test the old PSU with your power tester. If it failed it may have damaged other hardware.

Old PSU tested same as new PSU. No -5v green light but all others(+5v, +3.3v, -12v, PG, +12v +5vSB. Strange since this same power supply tested bad at store where I bought new PSU or so they tell me. Could power supply repair itself? Both PSU's fans start when connected to Dr.Power but not to mother board

Removed battery, memory and all wires to fans and devices, switched power-on connector to reset pins, Held reset for 30 seconds, reconnected front panel switch to power on pins and pressed - nothing happened. Finally used volt-meter tips to connect reset and then power-on pins - still nothing happens.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Anything else is appreciated.
