ok here's my problem, whenever I try to run a game, say Starcraft , the screen goes black, and about 5 seconds later returns to the desktop, but the game is still in the taskbar. I can't alt+tab back, I can't right click it, I have to ctrl+alt+delete to end the game, which I didn't even get to play. My friend thinks that XP Home is preventing me from doing thing. I have an nvidia geforce4 mx440, and an AG Neovo F-15 monitor (in case that is the problem) any help will be appreciated

emulation. XP "emulates" DOS programs, because it was built on true 32bit kernel (WinNT, Win2k). Some say this is because Micro$oft is trying to get rid of DOS...

Reply 2- I know that I have more than enough memory, as I just got my computer for Christmas. How much exactly I'm not sure...but I know there is enough to run games.

Reply 3- What do you mean by what IS running it? My processor is a p4 2.4 ghz, if that's what you mean...

Some of the older DOS games won't run right on XP.............It all depends on the game. I run Windows 2000 Pro and some of the old DOS games that I really like to play will not run on it at all. But, I like W2K more than being able to play the game.

Good luck,

i run xp on 3 computers side by side, i still play some old dos games including, empire deluxe, kingmaker, colonization, and several others. this is my prime computer i'm not sure why but games i could play previously.. including the above games i cannot play now.. i get a black screen. the mouse seems to cause ripples in this black screen when i move it.. so it seems to be a display problem. one of the other computers here is newer, runs same OS (xp up to date sp) yet it can play the games without the black screen. I found your problem looking for the solution to mine. I'm about to check my monitor resolution to see if it's minimum includes the resolution of the old dos games.. as well as check the minimum resolution on the monitor(pc) that is currently able to play these games. my worst fear is i have disabled my more oft used computers from dos games by doing windoes update. this is my last windows pc.. i'm going to apple rather than use vista, but thats another issue. i posted here because thes e dos games are running under one xp computer, but not another. i think the problem is the display.. or its a windows upgrade. this display min res is 800x600, mabye that's why i cant play the dos games if their res is lower? well the computer that can run the dos programs has the same minimum resolution.. now i think it's a windows problem.. i must have updated dos compatability right off my computer. this is the future of windows, google whats wrong with windows vista to read some nightmareish vision of the microsoft future. vote with your feet now and get an apple.
