hi,
i`ve been looking to build a new rig with a fx-60 939pin. every where in u.k. seems to be out of stock and the cheapest price is £411. i searched with google and found in america they are retailing at $349-$399 which with current exchange rates = at most £200. will the price be droping so it will be in line with the rest of the u.k. x2 range i.e x2 4800 = £180

Not sure about the FX prices, but you can get an AMD Athlon 64 4000+ for around £50.00, not too bad seeing as you can get an AMD Athlon 3000+ for only a few quid cheaper.

I was looking at going that route when I was choosing my current rig, but everyone talked me into going for a core2 6600, the price is around the same (maybe even cheaper) and far surpasses the FX60, have you considered this ?
hi,
i saw the cheap price of 4000+ and other AMD chips gonna wait and see if fx price does drops as i don`t want to go with intel as was going to use some old bits and i hear the scp is still a proplem with the creative X-fi and core duo based rigs and i got lucky with my a8n sli deluxe with no probs.
Well if you are able to wait I suggest hanging on until AMD hits back with it's answer to the core 2, you will probably see a price drop in the older CPU's then I would of thought.
Actually you are going to see the prices begin to rise abit back up with the AMD offerings.

I see on ebay new OEM FX-60's can be bought for about $350.00 which is a super price when you consider they were over $1000.00 only 6 months ago.

I too have the same board as you along with Cas2 high performance memory, and I will be going with the FX-60 very soon. The FX-60 is very close in performance to the E6600, the challenge between those two chips is NO spanking for the the FX-60 by far.

Yes; the E6600 is faster but the FX-60 can still extend its arm and touch the back of the E6600! The unlocked multiplier on the FX-60 makes it an attractive alternative a complete system upgrade.

even more so if you have Cas 2 memory on the FX-60 platform, due to the cost of the PC8000 memory most people are opting for the more affordable DDR2533 & 6400 memory sticks. The DDR 6400 and under with its memory latencies are actually a lesser performer than the PC3200 memory.

Also Dont over look getting a 5000 X2 dual core

the diff in performance between the 5000 X2 and the E6600 is not worth the $800.00 to start fresh. Not when you can get a CPU that is very close in performance for $350.00 that should extend the life of your current investment by at least 18 months.

good luck & I hope you find a worthy CPu for your intended budget.

hi,

i have been looking around for an FX-60 at the local shops and have been told AMD have stopped producing 939pin cpu`s is this true or are they trying to get me to buy a new am2 based rig which i don`t really want to do as i do have some cas2 high performance memory. I was going to wait and see if ddr3 was going to give improved performance before changing pin count.
they probally have stopped production, but there are still plenty of them on the market now
