fujitsu MHV2040AH not being recognized

I have a hard drive that "quit working" It does not seem to be grinding, but the system cannot find it. I have a vantec adapter to look at the drive, but cannot see it. I also purchased a replacement drive of the same model, thinking I could replace the pcb electronics board and it may work. How do I go about trouble shooting this. My concern with the electronics replacement is that the part numbers are different. Please offer any advice. There is nothing on the disk that I absolutely need, but it would save me a lot of time if I could get it to work. Thanks, Troy

Yes, it did not seem to recognize it yesterday, but now DMC recognizes it and says it is healthy. If I go to windows explorer, it just hangs when I try to look at the contents. The seagate tools where exactly what I was looking for. I ran the short drive test and the short generic and both passed. My niece was downloading songs for her ipod when it quit working. The computer did not even seem to recognize the drive when I tried to boot it up before I removed it to try and figure out what was wrong. What should I try now?
