Because you're running your CPU FSB at 333 instead of 400. I'm assuming you have a 2.0, 2.33, or 2.66 GHz CPU (333*6,7,8 respectively).

You can drop your multiplier a level and put your FSB closer to 400, the p5k should support it, but your CPU may not drop multipliers low enough and/or your system may become unstable.

What CPU do you have?

What FSB are you currently running on? 333*8 or 296*9 or 266*10?

That CPU should easily go to 2.8 or possibly 3.0 on stock heatsink. Anything more, i would put an aftermarket cooler on it.

I ran my e6750 at 3.0 (stock 2.66) with stock heatsink and voltages around 35C or so. I had it going at 375*8. The perfect CPU > RAM speed is 2.8 and 3.2 GHz (400*7 and 400*8).In your case, I would put it at 400*7, make sure it's prime95, orthos, and 3Dmark stable, and call it good.

Still should run at the rated speed even with the bus at 266. I think that if he puts his bus and ram on manual, the options might come up. Who knows, may be able to get 400 x 6.5, though I haven't booted past a 370 bus. It'll give me something to do on the weekend.
Too bad my parents live a thousand km. away, I put a P5K SE into their machine last summer.
