I was scared to try anything like that, I am not very knowledgeable about computers, and I was scared that I would really mess things up worser than they already are...
You just needed to move to Ga and I could have let you fixed it for me..lol :winking:
Thank you for all that you have done for me.

that friend said he has never seen one do that before!! I got it back and put in powermax and wrote zeros to the hard drive. I booted it back up and after it loaded windows, but before it got through installing the drivers..it froze again.I took the case off and sit a fan up there thinking that my fanin the puter wasnt running fast enough to keep it cool, but it is still freezing up. I have a smaller hard drive that I plugged into it just to see if it would work without freezing and it did. No freezing at all in the other hard drive....Does that mean that my hard drive has went out? Or can I do something else to get it to running again?

There is a remote possibility that there may have been a bad connection on the hard drive! How old is it anyway?

I would try and hook it up again just to see if it works. Stranger things have happened. But I am curious to how old it is.....:D

It is about 4 or 5 years old now..I rehooked my hard drive back up and it is freezing up again...I am gonna try another power supply and see if that does it....I guess I will try anything and everything I can before I have to get another hard drive for it. It is a 20 G hard drive with 256 MB ram.

I bought a powersupply and hooked everything up and turned it on and it frooze up again.I took it back to circuit city and bought a 120 g hard drive. I partitioned and put in 98 and cut it on, before it got through loading the drivers ...it froze.
I am lost now, I dont know what else to check.

Did the bios recognize the hard drive okay?

You may want to remove everything but the bare essentials and try to get it going.

In other words take out all the cards except the video card. I think that hard drive may be to large for your machine. Did you manage to get the full size while partitioning it?

I didnt have any problem putting the new hard drive in. Everything ran smoothly.
But after it froze up, I took it back out and put the one that was in it back in. I dont understand why a 1.2 gb hard drive will run in it fine with no freezing, and my hard drive that was in it..20.gb, is freezing up. I could understand it, if I had put a bigger one in and then it started freezing up. but the 20 gb was the one that came in it when I bought it.
The only thing that removes from it is the modem. I took it out and restarted it up..it still freezes up. The video is onboard. Do you think that it could have anything to do with the video? Would buying a video card help?
I uplugged all the wires and reseated them ...but it didnt help anything either.

What kind of a computer is this? Is it a store bought one like Compaq or Hewlett Packard? Or is it a home built type?

If it boots fine in safe mode but not in regular mode it would lead me to believe that there is probably a driver issue here. When you put the 1.2 drive in you say it runs fine so what's on the 20 that's not on the 1.2?

But we need to establish exactly what your running here. Do you know what kind of motherboard is in there if it's a home built type?

Its a compaq presario 7360. The only thing I have put into it is more memory and a Philips CDW. But the writter quit working about 6 months ago and I just unhooked it. It was making it freeze, or I thought thats what it was.
The motherboard..I see an orange sticker on it that says
0005 31 CAMARO. In the outer shell it has 101 BD W/O PROC.
Hope this is what you need.

Oh yea, the 20 G hard drive doesnt have anything on it anymore I did the format on it. I put the quick restore back in it. Only what came in it new. It restores your hard drive to factory condition.

I finally took it to a computer repair place. They checked everything and he said that it was the motherboard. Any ideas on to where to obtain another motherboard? For a reasonable price that would fit into mine?
