I have been having freezing problems for about a month now. I have went to http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp and found a virus called ADW tenget A. I did EVERYTHING that I was suposed to do to get it out of my puter. I rebooted and ran housecall again and it is gone now, but my computer is still freezing ..mostly during startup. It seems to freeze after startup only if I am not moving the mouse around. During the screensaver or if its idling. I have no clue on this problem but know I dont want to reformat....I hate putting all my "stuff" back in here. Can someone PLEASE help me???

still nothing...

I AM AT MY WITS END .....I have put in my quick restore disks that came with the computer, and it restored it to new factory settings. I am freezing up now more than I was after the quick restore. Could there be anything else besides the virus that is causing this?? It will not boot up completely now..it freezes before windows loads, and I have to shut it down.

I took the case off and yes, the fan is running perfectly. I blowed everything out while I was in there. I even unplugged the hard drive and plugged it back up..thinking that might would help..but it didnt. I still freeze up when it starts up.
I am gonna format the hard drive and see what that does. I don't know what else to do. If you can think of anything else ...please..let me know. Any help is appreciated..
THANKS A BUNCH

yes, and there was nothing that showed up.
I formatted it last night and put back in windows 98 and it did fine while I was instaling but as soon as windows came up, it froze again. I called a friend that knows a little 'bout computers and he said it might be the hard drive going out. Could that be a possibilty? Or could there be something I am overlooking??
Thanks,
Sherry

I put in on a floppy and put it into the computer and booted it up.
It said..The following file is missing or corrupt HIMEM.SYS
There is an error in your config.sys on line 2.
and then went to A:\
I tried putting in powermax and it said that it has to be ran under win32

What now????
lol
I am soo sorry to keep bothering you.
But thank you so much for wanting to help me.

Nope, it wouldn't go through scandisk. It said that it tried 10 times and there was a program trying to run in windows. And told me to shut the program down and try to run it again...the problem is, I dont know WHAT program is running!!
I did the msconfig and there was nothing checked in startup, as it was in safe mode.
I gave up on it and took it to a friend. He is gonna see what he can do to it...
OH, I ran the powermax and it said that my hard drive passed every test.

I was scared to try anything like that, I am not very knowledgeable about computers, and I was scared that I would really mess things up worser than they already are...
You just needed to move to Ga and I could have let you fixed it for me..lol :winking:
Thank you for all that you have done for me.

that friend said he has never seen one do that before!! I got it back and put in powermax and wrote zeros to the hard drive. I booted it back up and after it loaded windows, but before it got through installing the drivers..it froze again.I took the case off and sit a fan up there thinking that my fanin the puter wasnt running fast enough to keep it cool, but it is still freezing up. I have a smaller hard drive that I plugged into it just to see if it would work without freezing and it did. No freezing at all in the other hard drive....Does that mean that my hard drive has went out? Or can I do something else to get it to running again?

It is about 4 or 5 years old now..I rehooked my hard drive back up and it is freezing up again...I am gonna try another power supply and see if that does it....I guess I will try anything and everything I can before I have to get another hard drive for it. It is a 20 G hard drive with 256 MB ram.

I didnt have any problem putting the new hard drive in. Everything ran smoothly.
But after it froze up, I took it back out and put the one that was in it back in. I dont understand why a 1.2 gb hard drive will run in it fine with no freezing, and my hard drive that was in it..20.gb, is freezing up. I could understand it, if I had put a bigger one in and then it started freezing up. but the 20 gb was the one that came in it when I bought it.
The only thing that removes from it is the modem. I took it out and restarted it up..it still freezes up. The video is onboard. Do you think that it could have anything to do with the video? Would buying a video card help?
I uplugged all the wires and reseated them ...but it didnt help anything either.

Its a compaq presario 7360. The only thing I have put into it is more memory and a Philips CDW. But the writter quit working about 6 months ago and I just unhooked it. It was making it freeze, or I thought thats what it was.
The motherboard..I see an orange sticker on it that says
0005 31 CAMARO. In the outer shell it has 101 BD W/O PROC.
Hope this is what you need.

Oh yea, the 20 G hard drive doesnt have anything on it anymore I did the format on it. I put the quick restore back in it. Only what came in it new. It restores your hard drive to factory condition.

I finally took it to a computer repair place. They checked everything and he said that it was the motherboard. Any ideas on to where to obtain another motherboard? For a reasonable price that would fit into mine?
