Freezing/BSOD when trying to open games

Hey, I'm having a lot of issues when trying to run most games on Windows 7. I have an ATI HD Radeon 5970 and whenever I open, say, Team Fortress 2, it will get past the first few screens and then when I try to actually play it will freeze up then give me a BSOD saying the error is 0x0000007E. I've tried uninstalling the latest drivers and going back to an older one, but it's the same issue. I've got no idea how to solve this. Any ideas?

I just ran DriverCleaner and CCleaner, now WoW and the Medal of Honor beta. However, Valve games crash all the same. Getting the antikdmag.sys error.
Don't use any tools that monkey with your registry. Registry cleaners are unnecessary - and often cause even more problems with your system.

As for the error, there's more info on it here: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html#0x0000007E In particular, check to ensure that your hard drive has at least 15% free space.

Since the error you get cites antikdmag.sys as the cause, I'd suggest the following:
- download the Display Driver Only (NOT the entire Catalyst Control Center) from http://www.ati.com
- uninstall all ATI stuff from your system using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
- then install the freshly downloaded Display Drivers and monitor for further BSOD's.

Should you get another BSOD, please follow the instructions here for providing information: http://www.techsupportforum.com/f217/blue-screen-of-death-bsod-posting-instructions-452654.html
