homested.com and tripod.com used to let you build and host a free but simple webpage although it has advertising...anyone know of a service out there that does this anymore...I check tripod and it looks like they want 4.95 a month...not looking to spend money...till I get my own server up and running so I am looking for FREE...any ideas:winkgrin:

as far as free hosts go i suggest

http://www.lycos.co.uk/
they give you php4, mysql database, and a decent amount of space, but they have ads on them...

http://www.php50.com/
has no ads (you must supply a link back to them though) and allows you to run php scripts

http://www.web1000.com/
ive never used that one but a friend of mine uses them, i believe they have no ads either but not 100% sure...

Doonz,
I use Tripod for my personal pages and I am thoroughly satisfied with them. I have never had a minutes troube. The ads are a nuisance but when ya have a pop up stopper ;)

The 4.95 plan is for your own www.whatevername.com
Thefree site would be something like this: http://whatevername.tripod.com

And they give you ALOT of space....

Most of these sites will require that you make the pages yourself and then upload them to the server. A good understanding of HTML or a program that can output it for you would be necessary.

Yep. geocities.com does still exist, with the free version. They have now got some paying ones now as well. I don't know how long they have been doing that for.

And Jason very nice work you have done on this forum:grin:
And are you a member of the 'free masons' ? just wondering because of your aviator.
